What is the Forum of Young Alaskans?
You have a voice – it’s time to use it!
Young people ages 16-25, we need to be part of a revolutionary discussion that will directly impact the future of Alaska.
As young Alaskans, we know that decisions being made today about our economy, our laws, our environment and resources are going to directly impact our future – and how we will live and work in this state.
WE NEED YOUR OPINIONS TO HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE!
On October 4, 2008, young Alaskans, from large and small communities across the state will convene to discuss, debate, and delve into the issues that are important to all of us as Alaska’s future. The Forum of Young Alaskans is designed to reach young people, like you, from across the varied geographical regions of the state and to provide you with an opportunity to share your experiences and knowledge with others.
It is going to be largest statewide discussion in history – and it all starts with you!
Large groups of young Alaskans will meet simultaneously in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Bethel, Dillingham, Valdez and other communities across the state to discuss the issues facing Alaskans and challenges we will face. Find a Forum near you (View Map | See List)
The cool thing is, we’re doing this through Web technology and state of the art video conferencing as well as some traditional broadcast technology (television and radio).
We’re expecting hundreds of in-person and virtual participants between the ages of 16-25. This is a start to a youth-led revolution in Alaska. We’re going to make an unprecedented impact on statewide policies by taking the pulse of Alaska’s greatest natural resource, its young people!
The Forum is the first event of its kind where all of us will have the opportunity to express our opinions and discuss the issues and problems occurring across the state in real- time by real-time social networking technology like blogs, video exchange platforms and a statewide chat forum.
By engaging young Alaskans, just like you, the Forum will benefit from an array of perspectives representing diverse socioeconomic, racial, gender and geographic backgrounds.
Through this event, we’ll reach both urban and rural Alaska, and communities large and small. Join the revolution! Become part of interactive democracy in Alaska!
